Bethany McNeeley - The Bible Project
St. Mary’s Youth and Children’s Work:
At St. Mary’s Church, we run a weekly kids club, youth club, and Sunday School. Through these groups we interact with many children and youth who do not own a Bible or come to church. In all our sessions we are walking through the Bible. Currently, we are sharing the Gospel through the Old Testament. Through a lot of prayer and constant sharing of flyers we know have 3 boys from kids club coming to Church. One of them asked us for a Bible and we gave him a pew Bible to take home. The next week his brother and I were talking. His brother told me that they are reading the Bible as a family. I asked him what stuck out to him as they read? He said, “Eve was created with Adam’s rib……How cool is that?! His rib!!!” In our Youth session after, one of our teens held a Bible and said, “I don’t have one of these….can I have it?” In a week we gave a Bible to a child who shared it with his family, and 2 teenagers. The Word of God is needed, however, it comes at a price. I would love to have a stash of Bibles to give out freely to our children and teens who come. So that we can come alongside them and show them how to read the Bible, learn, and grow. A bigger vision would be to give Bibles to our children and youth to then pass on to their friends, family, and neighbors.
St. Mary’s Community Outreach:
At St. Mary’s Church, we started a monthly Café Church. Café Church, is for the community, Christians, non Christians, those on the edge, welcome to all. We have seen a mix of people come in drink coffee/tea, listen to live music, and hear a Gospel message. One of our volunteers, played for a local football (soccer) team. She is the only Christian and her team has been coming. We also, have seen some kids from our kids club bring their families! My vision is to have Bibles so that anyone who comes can have one if they don’t have one. Café Church isn’t our only community outreach. In the summer, we have a sports camp where 50-100 children come, we have holiday clubs throughout the year, and family events. We are in a season of reaching out into our local community.
