What is God doing with the nations?
“He changes rivers into a wilderness and springs of water into a thirsty ground; a fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it. He changes a wilderness into a pool of water and a dry land into springs of water; and there He makes the hungry to dwell, so that they may establish an inhabited city, and sow fields and plant vineyards, and gather a fruitful harvest. Also He blesses them and they multiply greatly, and He does not let their cattle decrease…..The upright see it and are glad, but all unrighteousness shuts its mouth. Who is wise? Let him give heed to these things, and consider the lovingkindness of the Lord.” Psalm 107:33-38, 42-43
Consider and heed these things, beloved. Yes, even the work of God in response to the sinfulness of the people in a city or nation is still His lovingkindness in action. God is always at work in your life. He does not quit, cease, give up or fail. He is always faithful and always there. He is also at work in your community and the nations of this world. Our infinite God is always active and holds the balances in His mighty hand to deliver the results of mankind’s response to Him in appropriate measure. Quite often, the faithful must endure in the community of the wicked. We wonder why the blessings and bounties of the land seem desolate and diminishing, for we perhaps have followed the Lord, yet consider the unfaithful of the land and understand that God is always at work in their lives as well. When a land immerses itself in sin by majority, expect that the resulting famines, economic strains, and lack of abundance are soon coming, all at work so that a people might turn once again back to the Lord with a sincere heart. How blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord!
The aspect of grace is often difficult for us to grasp. We despair when the wicked appear to flourish and the righteous seem to suffer, though in truth it is only but for a short time. Know that in the latter days, of which we have entered I have no doubt, that “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:12-15
We have every assurance that God has not nor will ever leave His children unattended, uncared for or forgotten. We have but limited time to reveal the blessings of following Christ to the unconverted, and for some of us alive today, our opportunities to do so may be in dark times of great persecution that are coming our way. Are you fully convinced of the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you able to stand firm in the day of adversity?
Every civilization which has not sought the Lord in the history of mankind has the same lesson to teach us, that a temporary success and rise to power by the gracious and loving-kind hand of the Lord, when spurned and taken for granted as the ability of self to succeed without the need for the One True God, fails. It crumbles, is overtaken, becomes desolate and is soon no more as it fades into the shadow of another nation or people. Therefore, “Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:12-13
“These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.” Revelation 17:14
IT WILL BE WORTH IT ALL!
